  • The Conductor will provide the reader with information using the best practices of delivery management so they can successfully complete multi-million dollar engagements on time and within budget. 
  • There are several metaphors that can be used to visualize a Delivery Director but one that is most appropriate is an orchestra conductor.  The conductor oversees several different instruments that must be finely tuned and played in sync.  Like the Delivery Director, the conductor does not have to be an expert with each instrument, but should possess an understanding of how they work. The conductors goal is to make sure that all members of the orchestra are competent enough to play their instruments (job knowledge), work together to create superior music (product development), finish when planned (complete the project on time), and satisfy the audience (client satisfaction).  If all this happens correctly there is a good chance the audience will return (repeat business).

    “What has not been documented has not been said”  –  If it is not in the project charter it doesn’t get done

    “Failure to enforce the change request process is the leading cause of project overrun and failure”  –  Without an effective change management process, the project will result in a missed deadline and budget overruns
